A few great kids rooms

This ones for my brother & sister in law!
Their first baby is due in september, but we don't know if its a boy or a girl!
How's this for a different spin on a girls room - or a room for the future baby who's gender is a surprise! I think this room would work for either - i know its not that masculine, but mum would certainly enjoy spending time in here!

I dont know where these came from but they are SO gorgeous!
You wouldnt think of blue for a girly room but this is so feminine i think!
And now one for the girl who does love pink!

Very sophisticated i think!

Custom Wardrobe

A while back I completed this custom wardrobe for fashion stylist Lydia-Jane Saunders.
The space was compact but lots of room for accessories, shoes & bags was a must!
You may remember the before photos from this post! (yes i know it was a while ago!)
Lydia used some gorgeous ceramic knobs she'd collected on the drawers which looked very cute!

Heres Lydia in her wardrobe - recently shot for some press!

If anyone is after any custom joinery - wardrobes, bookcases, vanities, wall units etc -  its one of my favorite things to work on & i have some great joiners in the sydney area! If your out of town its easy to work over email & then send the drawings through to you as PDF's which you can then use to get quotes from your own local cabinetmakers! Drop me an email on sally@sallyrhysjones.com if you'd like to chat! Or in the meantime 'like' my facebook page to see updates of various jobs - lots of great before & afters!

Design Tip!

It occurred to me last week that one thing i notice a lot is bad use of scale in bedrooms. I often see people with large beds (as most of them are!) & tiny little lamps that are totally lost & a bare wall behind the bed & said lamps. Increasing the scale of your bedside lamps will make them a feature & will anchor the bed. A lot of people think 'oh i have a small room so i cant put big things in it as it will make it look too full' but thats not the case at all. A few larger items (& not 100's of small ones!) in a room will actually make it appear larger!

Cute Ideas!

Love this idea for a magazine rack made with towel rails!
Nice to be able to see all the covers & not always have them stacked ontop of each other!

A pair of chandeliers over your workspace? Yes please!

Home love!

I came across this home features on The Decorista & had to share.
The office grabbed me first (the armchair, the pink & that carpet)! But then it seems every other room in the house is to die for aswell! I love the use of colour & the plush 'put together' feel, but that it still has that lived in feel & isnt too 'precious'.

Loving the chandelier & those bedside mirrors ( & how cosy does the bed look!)

In the dining room im loving the lush green chairs & curtains against that dark wall.
And again the chandelier - love me a chandelier!

Another thing im a real fan of is mismatched (but again so well put together) casual dining chairs.
I especially like the use of the lounge here as a bench seat & that blue & white chair! Cant you just see yourself
sitting around this arrangement on a sunday morning with breakfast & the papers?

AND this kitchen - amazing!
Love the solid island & the classic tap ware (along with a long list of other things!)

Bar Cart Loving.

I know the obsession with bar carts is nothing new, but we got some gorgeous wedding pressies (think crystal decanters, glasses & some very special bottle of champagne) that are crying out to be displayed in a beautiful way. Ada & Darcy has started to stock Society Socials to die for range of bar carts (hello, australian stockist!!). AND i was super excited that my bloggy bestie Sonja from Tied with a Bouw informed me last week that she has one on the way to her place! I cant wait to see what it looks like in the flesh!  Im loving these images below from the Society Social website & a few more i had saved in the inspiration files for styling ideas - seems anything crystal, silver trays, colourful spirits (think bombay sapphire, cointreau, campari or chambord!) a bottle of verve & silver cocktail shakers are all essentials! While an actual cart is an ideal 'bar' a small sideboard could also do the trick!

My Work - Kitchen Before & After!

Sorry its been a while since i've shared some of my work  - takes a while to get to photograph things!
This was a kitchen renovation i undertook last year - the brief was a classic kitchen with a touch of 'country style' & on a pretty tight budget. Of course, as with any kitchen, it needed to be functional & hard wearing as the clients love to cook & timeless, which is very important - you don't want your kitchen to go out of style a few years later! So lets have a look at the before & afters..........
(love a good before & after, dont you?)

Before....

After.....

For those of you who are new readers, i am an interior architect & went solo late last year.
I do everything from council submissions, floor plans, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery (custom wardrobes, bookshelves etc), lighting & electrical...everything really! I work on jobs of all sizes, from one wardrobe to a whole house & have some fantastic trades i work with. I'd love to chat with you if you need any work done :) You can also  'like' Sally Rhys-Jones Interior Architecture on Facebook here!
