3 weeks till Kilimanjaro!

You might remember back in February where i told you about my selection to be the Australian member of an all Type 1 Diabetic team to climb mount Kilimanjaro? Well, time has crept up & in just under 3 weeks ill be flying out for Africa!

There are 11 of us with type 1 from all over the world making up the tam & we will be accompanied by 2 doctors & a film crew from france who are making a documentary about us. the idea is to promote the fact that even with Diabetes or indeed any other chronic illness you can still get out there & have a go. Don't let it hold you back - yes, chronic illness makes life a little more difficult but don't let it stop you from achieving the things you want to try!

The last few weeks have been a flurry of doctors appointments, vaccinations & checking over gear lists to make sure i have everything i need {and recalling how hard everest base camp was & slightly questioning my sanity to go up at this altitude again!} I have been doing long walks & lots of stairs & hills, although i still feel like i could be fitter, i had this flu everyone in sydney seems to have got this winter for an eternity, which put me behind a little bit with my training. Anyway! I have to say i am both excited & a little bit nervous at the same time.
I will be stopping in dubai for 2 days on the way there & doing a 3 day safari before the trek! Ive never been to either Dubai or Africa (Tanzania) so i cant wait :)

Its a tough climb and not everyone makes the summit, add to that the fact that we all have diabetes to deal with & its going to be hard!
Im going to give it my all & if i make the summit it will be a bonus. When i get back ill be sure to share some of my photos with you all
Happy Friday xx

Beachscapes

As you can probably tell from my blog header, i love a beachscape!
The colours & the feelings of summer they evoke; salt, sand & that awesome feeling of diving under a wave!
Seeing as this Christian Chaize print sold out long ago, i just ordered myself the next best thing;
 A coffee table book of all his images from Praia Piquina which he shot over an 8 year period.
Boy was i excited when i came across it via Lonny last night - straight onto Book Depository i went!
For similar style prints try Aussie based photographer Eugene Tans Aquabumps.

Melbourne mini break!

Ben & i have just spend 3 days (2 nights) in Melbourne & had a great little break.
it was really a work based trip for me to go to Design & Decoration.
I ran into Kerri from Driftwood interiors which was a thrill after being bloggy friends for years!)
after that there was plenty of time for....well.....lots of eating!!!

We stayed at The Crown Metropole which was amazing!
The design of that place is to die for - the rooms were fabulous & there were lots of cute little details like this to do list!

And how about this artwork in the lobby eh?
If your ever staying there you also must head up to skybar on level 28 for a drink, the view & the truffled popcorn ;)

We got the sky bus from the airport to the hotel which was very quick & easy.
Then headed straight out for breakfast to Hardware Societe, which i would highly recommend!

For late lunch we had a small bite to eat at Gochi at the Casino.
Just a little sushi take away spot with a few tables, but very good for a quick lunch on the go.
And also the best oolong tea one ever tasted!

 Dinner.....ok, lets talk about dinner!
You all know I'm a bit of a lover of anything French - that extends to guillaume Brahimi!
Having eaten at Bennelong in Sydney for our wedding anniversary we were keen to try Bistro Guillaume. Boy did it live up to expectations! Dinner went something like this;

 We didn't really do much shopping but i finally fort my hands on one of these country road polka dot jumpers & pretty much haven't taken it off since! i also bough the gorgeous camel coloured cape from witchery! Perfect for the wintery melbourne weather!
