Cheap (pattern) trick!

I just discovered this townhouse by designer Philip Galanes a few week ago. Am absolutely in love with the use of the concrete bessa blocks (painted white) throughout creating such affordable, yet gorgeous pattern & texture. Just shows you dont always need to use expensive materials to get that wow factor.

a bit of a fan of that huge floral artwork too!

Zebra purchased!!!

I just obtained this beauty on ebay!

With the US dollar the way it is i had the urge to do some shopping & make the most of it....what do you know i found an ebay seller based in Miami who has a huge range of cow hides & printed cow hides for about half the price of anywhere else ive seen them. I picked up this beauty for $230USD including the shipping to Australia! Will just have to wait to see if its nice in the flesh...Should take about a week!
Ill definately share a photo of it sprucing up our living room!

Lonny Blog

Im quite liking the new & easy to navigate Lonny Blog.
The thing i like the most is the 'decorate' section which has images catalouged under headings like, living, bedroom, kitchen etc that you can easily save to your computer (ever noticed how hard it is to save off the actual Lonny mag??? or is this just me??)  Here are a couple of my favorites that we havent already seen a zillion times!

Your help needed! A chandelier for my bedroom!

So today im calling out for all of your help!
Since we moved into our apartment we have been planning on replacing the oyster light (yuk yuk i hate them!) in our bedroom with a pendant. We have decided (only 2yrs later) on a chadelier because we have 2 husge lamps shades on either side of the bed & think a third drum shade would look a it wrong (lampshade overkill!) Now i need to choose one in the budget ($300 max). Here is the kind of look im going for & images im inspired by!

Like the clear crystal look of this one with the little white shades over the globes...

Like the all clear look of this one...

This ones quite dramatic but think i want to keep the room light...

Also particulary like this one, crystals with a bit of a  rusty antique look. and just quietly how amazing is this room!

We bought our apartment new, so it really needed a bit of character. We got white timber venetians for the windows on both sides, bed & lamps from Domayne (this was my splurge!)  bedsides found on the side of the road, rug on the floor from urban outfitters (on a trip to nyc)  It has kind of a french/beachy vibe...

The other thing thats been bothering me is the big blank wall behind the bed....was thinking maybe wallpaper but if we hung the chandelier we may eliminate this problem??

so - im thinking i like this Excelsior 5 light chandeleir from Beacon Lighting for $280. Nice & simple so not  to distarct from rest of room & will keep the 'white' theme going...

And for an extra $50 you can get these shades to go over the globes - id get them in white (do i need these??)

or i found this one in a lighting shop in balgowlah - crystals & leaves made out of a soft white tin type of metal..(sorry about the terrible photo!) for around the same price.

What do you think?? Does anyone else know of any good chandeleirs they have seen around? Would love to hear your ideas!

My latest job - a tricky kitchen space for people who LOVE to cook!

I have been quite busy lately!  Another project ive taken on is the re-invention of my 'in laws' kitchen! This was a tricky project as the space was full of doors & windows to work around!
They LOVE to cook so after living with this not so great space for the last 15 years i was feeling the pressure to give them a fantastic kitchen! After hours & hours of refining our plans, choosing joinery & benchtop finishes, and finding the right appliances (hello enourmous freestanding oven & cooktop!) the build is nearly done!
Here are the before shots!

Minimal storage space (for people that have alot of kitchenware!), paired with the fact that the sink, cooktop and microwave are all taking up bench space resulted in the benchtop being cluttered and their being very little work space...

The doors you can see closet to the door to the balcony is the pantry & beside is the oven that isnt wide enough to fit a large baking tray into...Hello! Christmas ham as to fit in there!

And lets not forget the lovely blue wall that doesnt go with anything else in the house ;) Oh, and the cork floors (the rest of the house is beautiful polished timber)

A small 'breakfast table' up agaist the wall that is only used every so often & is usually the home of piles of mail, newsapers & various other bits & pieces!

Lovely exhaust fan in the middle of the glass above the door...goodbye!

Stay tuned for the 'afters'. The new joinery & caesar stone benchtops are in, the cork floor has been ripped up & the timber below polished. Just waiting on the cupboard doors, splashbacks & the appliances to go in!
